As most Chi owners can relate, the phrase “that’s not a real dog!” gets heard a lot. I encounter it the most at a pet-friendly store and a little kid will laugh and point and say “look daddy, that’s not a real dog!”. Well, I’m here to tell you they are! They are perpetually loyal, persistently playful, and love a good walk (that is when they’re not chasing squirrels).
They may be a little smaller in comparison to the greater population of the canine world, but what they lack in size they make up for in attitude. I don’t know how a heart can’t melt when you look into their wide eyes that say “you are the coolest person on the planet”. And really, no matter what breed or mix dog one might have, if you don’t get that feeling by looking in their face then maybe that’s not a “real” dog.

Hey Dominga,
My new client, K9Cuisine.com, is doing a fundraiser for the pets displaced by Hurricane Ike. K9Cuisine is an internet based dog and cat food company in Paris, Illinois. The owner, Anthony Holloway and his wife Kate, rented a truck full of 6.5 tons of pet food and drove more than a thousand miles to the Houston SPCA last week. The Houston SPCA called K9Cuisine and said they were almost out of food and could K9Cuisine please come NOW and so they did! The “Send a Bag” campaign ends tomorrow!
It is great to hear from you!

A Chi is nothing more than a small poodle without hair.
You might as well buy a cat.
Your do IS A REAL DOG – growing up D we had one BIG chihuahua – he was as tough as the dog next door ( the dog next door was a G-SHEP ) he would chase after everyone and any animal on our property that didn’t belong – I miss him – HOUSTON – made us smile. Take care, N
I agree! chihuahuas are so cute!! especially Chacho
Being a previous Chihuahua owner myself, I must totally agree with you. They give you unconditional love and your heart does a small leap knowing they will anxiously be waiting for you when you come home. Now the parents of a chocolate Lab, (what a difference ay?) Cuddles is a playful and loving companion, but I miss having Skoshi in my lap on occassion. Kinda hard to put a 90 lb Lab on your lap for too long.
More power to the Chihuahua, Mija
